PARTYING AT THE KENTUCKY DERBY

5/10/04

Jerry O'Connell was in Louisville the weekend of May 1st attending the Kentucky Derby festivities with his father Michael. Photos from the event can be seen at krtinternational.com and editorial.gettyimages.com. From the look of one photo (Jerry tears up his racing ticket) it seems that Jerry's horse didn't fare very well. Jerry commented on the party atmosphere in this quote from Kentucky.com:

BARNSTABLE-BROWN PARTY
THE STARS STEP OUT

Kangaroo Jack star Jerry O'Connell said he thinks at Derby time, Louisville's got partying down.

"It's the only place where you have the ability to drink mint juleps before noon and not have someone laugh at you or put you in rehab."

It sounds like Jerry's good nature won over a few of the Kentucky locals as well. Here is the blurb from Kentucky.com - Lexington Herald-Leader.

It's all about ...

Celeb spotting: Where else in the Bluegrass State in the span of an afternoon can you see O.J. Simpson, Carson Kressley from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Patrick Swayze, LaToya Jackson and Rudy Giuliani? Speaking of celebrities ... we love Jerry O'Connell. You know, the tubby kid from Stand by Me? Unlike other entourage-bringing, standoffish stars, the Derby regular is approachable and a just plain nice guy. Thanks, Jerry.
