1/15/04

This news on Crossing Jordan was found at TVGuide.com:

RETURNING JORDAN: Crossing Jordan will move to Sundays at 10 pm/ET when it kicks off its abbreviated third season in early March, NBC confirmed Wednesday.

This also appeared in the Toronto Star:

Back from her maternity leave, fellow frostback Jill Hennessy returns to NBC in March as Crossing Jordan moves to Sundays, with the return of regular Jerry O'Connell and the addition of soap star Jennifer Finnigan as a "feisty" med student.

Two Jerrys and a 'Trace' episode

Jerry O'Connell is hopping over to another Jerry Bruckheimer property.

Jerry O'Connell, who collaborated with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on Kangaroo Jack, will appear on his hit CBS series, Without a Trace.

Last summer, the actor chased after a jumping Jack in Bruckheimer's Kangaroo Jack . This month, he's being chased by another of Jerry's Jacks - FBI agent Jack Malone, who heads up the missing-persons bureau on Bruckheimer's CBS hit, Without a Trace.

On an episode scheduled for Jan. 15 (10 p.m. ET/PT), O'Connell will play a missing criminal-defense attorney who's afraid for his life. The question for Jack (Anthony LaPaglia): Are those fears real or the result of paranoid schizophrenia?

The episode was written by Trace producer Ed Redlich, who says he was looking for a way to get O'Connell on the show. "You struggle to create these missing-person roles that are meaty enough."

Though this CBS Thursday hit no longer struggles for ratings, Redlich says it still faces a problem common with "procedural" crime shows: giving the actors enough to do. Try too hard, he says, and you can upset the balance between work and personal stories. But you have to keep trying, particularly when you have an actor of LaPaglia's caliber.

"You just hate to have him just be a traffic cop. He's just too good."

CROSSING JORDAN AND SLIDERS

The new season of "Crossing Jordan" should be airing some time in 2004, but according to this blurb in the Denver Post it may not be until the end of February sweeps which runs February 5-March 3rd.

On the bubble: Two series enjoying a so-called hiatus have a glimmer of hope: ABC says "Karen Cisco" will return in March; NBC says "Crossing Jordan" will return in 2004, too, likely after the February sweeps.

In a recent "Watch With Kristen" chat at E! Online (Dec 15, 2003) it was reported that the cast did film 3 episodes without Jill, but she has now returned from her maternity leave to film the remainder of the episodes:

From Yvonne: Any scoop on Crossing Jordan? It's my favorite show next to Law & Order, and I am awaiting its return. Any hints on what happens this season?

Good news--Jill Hennessy has decided to come back to Jordan. She returns after the three episodes that the cast has shot without her (the focus is on Jerry O'Connell). Producers had been willing to move forward without her for even more episodes if she hadn't decided to return. But Jill apparently decided she's ready to go back to work after giving birth a few months ago.

For Sliders fans, the Sci-Fi channel will be airing episodes M-F at 10:00 am PST starting January 2nd. (Check your local listings for show times in your area) Thanks to nannie in the Jerry O'Connell's fan club for the news.
