Jerry O'Connell On...
The appeal
of Hard-to-get women
Guys
love to work for their dates. It's the classic cookie-in-the-cookie-jar
situation -- you're told you can't have something, and that only makes
you want it more. I'm definitely attracted to women who look like they're
going to require a lot of work but will appreciate my effort. For the
ones I really want, I have to have my A game on.
One
"no" is not going to discourage most men. Once I met a girl
who wasn't ready to give me her phone number right away; she made me
memorize her e-mail address. Every time I wrote her an e-mail she thought
was funny, she gave me another digit of her number. Ten e-mails later,
I finally pieced the whole thing together. That was hard -- I had to
break out the thesaurus on several occasions. But there was a sense
of accomplishment, that I'd really earned the number. You don't get
that with some girl who goes, "Here's my number -- call me,"
then tries to drag you into her house on the first date. I'm scared
of women like that. I start to think, My God, I'm funny, but not that
funny. How many other guys have been here before me?
